I was awakened at 4 am this morning when my mother needed my help.  I couldn’t fall back asleep so I got a head start on my day.  I fed the dogs, filled the bird and squirrel feeder, then watered the “bald” spots of my lawn where I’ve put down grass seed.

Why is there no room number one?

I was given a tour of the Emergency Room at a hospital that had just been remodeled and noticed the rooms were numbered 2 through 20.  So I asked my tour guide “why is there no room #1?”  She smiled at me and explained “room number 1 and 2 were both small, so we combined them to make one big room.”  I then had to ask “so why not number the rooms 1 through 19?”

She looked at me like I was stupid and said “this way we only had to remove one number.  If we did it your way, we’d have to move 19 numbers.”  I guess, to her, it made sense.
